Ockwells Safety Post Handrail Fixing Information Ockwells Handrail Safety Posts are designed to form a temporary and reusable safety rail during construction.

Each post is constructed from 30mm steel box section in three designs, straight posts, corner posts and stringer posts Straight and Corner posts are designed to be floor mounted through 130 x 130mm base plates with 4 pre-drilled 6mm diameter holes fixed with size 8 screws, the length should be determined on site but not be less than 50mm.

Stringer posts should be fixed to the stair side rails from both sides with the appropriate screw length to suit stair rails. Midrail, top handrails and kick boards should be fixed to all posts using all fixing points available. Midrail and handrails can be up to 40mm thick and 100mm deep and should always be fixed with the appropriate screw length to suit your rails. Post spacing should not exceed 1.2m

These systems are not compliant with BS EN 13374. However, we have by engineering our StairSafe and Handrail Posts to cover the standard's height and rail spacing requirements.

The top handrail on stairs is a minimum height of 1000mm The distance between the top handrail and intermediate handrail is a maximum of 470mm The distance between intermediate handrail and the top of the toe board is a minimum of 470mm (on Handrail Safety posts, this does not apply to StairSafe)
